About
The Constructed Condition is a project examining architectures originally conceived to address housing crises, while questioning the politics of landlordism and the transformation of the United Kingdom’s housing market. Focusing on the Barbican Estate in London, the work considers how an architectural vision once intended to provide efficient, collective housing has gradually been reframed as a desirable aesthetic, used by real estate agencies to justify escalating property values.
Using the Barbican as both site and symbol, the project reflects on the shifting meanings of brutalist and eco-brutalist architecture. It draws attention to the tension between the utopian ambitions embedded in post-war housing and the speculative forces that now shape contemporary urban living.
The images are subtly manipulated through a process that embeds fragments of real estate language such as pricing, descriptions, and promotional rhetoric directly into the digital code structure of the photographs. This intervention produces visual disruptions and colour shifts, suggesting the ways in which economic narratives permeate and distort both the image and the built environment it represents.
